G'day mates!
The last couple of days we have been spending in the Red Center, which is really RED! The rocks as well as the earth... all red! The Red Center is of course in the outback (aka woop woop or the never never). As soon as we arrived, the temperature was 36 degrees (at 10 in the morning!) and because of the really dry air and the hot wind, it felt like 46 degrees... OEF... we had to adjust! Was this maybe HELL??? We discovered that Alice Springs has nothing to offer. We didn't like it at all and we were quite happy that we only had to spend 1 half day over here. We went to see the flying doctors station, which is really small, but it was very interesting to see how they operate. After that we decided to go for a hike already. We had been told that we should buy fly nets, but at this point we didn't have them and actually the flies were not so bad, although they really tried to get into your ears and nose. During our hike, we discovered a black-footed rock wallaby! How CUTE!!!
The next day we would be driving to Kings Canyon, during this trip, we had a lot of nice lookouts, but unfortunately the further we came, the more flies we encountered... :-( Hmmm... at this point I started to think "why didn't I buy a fly net???" We managed to get through the day without a fly net, but guess what the first thing was that I bought when we arrived at Kings Canyon??? YES, a fly net, thank god we could still buy them here!! So, with the fly net around my head I was ready for Kings Canyon.
At Kings Canyon we did a hike all through the Canyon, this was terrific. It takes you up and down between the rocks, but it was HOT HOT HOT! From Kings Canyon our trip went to the world famous Ayers Rock and the Olgas. Because the temperature was still over 36 degrees, they closed the Ayers Rock climb. (Not that I wanted to climb the rock, I mean... I've had my portion of overcoming my fear of heights already in Sydney... ;-)!) and also due to this high temperature they closed down the Valley of the winds. This is a hike through the Olgas. Hmmm... what to do? We asked the lady at the entrance of the park and she told us that the Valley of the winds would be open the next morning, but would again be closing at 11.00. Ahhhh... no worries, we would make sure that we would be there early in the morning! And I'm glad we did!!! This was really breath taking, I just cannot explain, you have to experience this! There were so many birds and you are walking in such an uncommon environment, it's just amazing!!! At night we watched the sunset at Ayers Rock, also this was very special to see. The rock really changes colour every minute! It's crazy! At Ayers Rock we met a nice couple from Switzerland. They were going back now, after having worked here for 3,5 years! WOW... I thought: Let's hear the story!!! Yeah, I could imagine me living here, but Mostafa doesn't want to.. :-( (so for all of you who were afraid I wouldn't come back: no worries, you'll see me soon!)
When we were back at our hotel and we were walking outside, just strolling around and I looked up at the sky... another surprise... you could see the Milky Way!!! Woooowww... this was magical. There were so many stars, I've never seen anything like this before and it looked like you could touch them, it really felt like the Milky Way was within reach, AMAZING!!!! We just couldn't stop staring at the sky!
After spending 5 days in the Outback we had to catch a plane again. (WHOOHOOO, no more flies!!!!!) So at this moment we are in Cairns and we are experiencing quite some rain... this afternoon we went to Daintree, this is actually a rain forest and it was pooring! It is hot and humid, but the rain just keeps coming down! We are really experiencing the extremities of Australia!
To be in the rain forest was nice, but would have been nicer without the rain, because you could not see any birds or any butterflies... But... we did see a couple of Golden Orb Spiders... they were extremely big, although not too scary. Their body is about 4,5 cm, but their feet are thin and they're not hairy at all. OK, I thought that they were too big for my taste, but I could watch them from a pretty close distance!! (I'm actually proud of myself!!) Anyway, when we drove away, we got the "desert" of the rainforest experience: We say a Cassowary!!! Wow, these birds are big! Unfortunately they're also fast, so before I could manage to get my camera, it was gone...
I guess it went to seek shelter, because it's still raining like HELL! Tomorrow we will visit Kuranda and then we will head south as fast as we can! Searching for the sun!!!

John: zoals je hebt kunnen lezen, kom ik toch maar gewoon terug. Ha,ha, ik moet anders in mijn eentje hier blijven en da's ook niet gezellig.
Silvia: speciaal voor jou... geen foto van de spin erbij gedaan hoef je niet te zitten griezelen, kijk maar naar onze koppen voor Ayers Rock... da's OOK griezelen ;-)
Richard M: Stil op de afdeling, wacht maar tot na Pasen, dan komt het geweld weer terug... ;-)
Bert: Je had gelijk, we hebben tijdens onze wandeling Valley of the Winds hele zwermen zebravinken gezien, dat was geweldig! Ik heb er een foto van gemaakt!
Nathalie: wat leuk van je te horen! Ik weet zeker dat ik niet uitverteld kom, de eerstvolgnde keer dat we mekaar spreken!
Natascha: Kangaroo is HEERLIJK! Het is inderdaad zielig, maar echt ontzettend lekker! Krokodil is overigens ook niet gek, mits met een goed sausje klaar gemaakt oh enne... tegen de tijd dat ik terug kom, heb ik een drank verslaving.. een Australische wijn verslaving... mijn god, heerlijk zeg!!! Heavenly! Doe je Petra de groetjes!!!!

WAUW, jullie hebben het echt SUPER gehad in the outback! En al die sterren, GEWELDIG, niet?!? Zo zie je ze hier niet! Tja, alleen die vliegen he?!? Maar jullie hebben het overleefd... Jammer van de regen, maar ja, zonder regen zou de natuur er ook iets anders uit zien. Elk voordeel heb z'n nadeel zullen we maar zeggen... Geniet nog van jullie laatste route, op naar de zon!!! Hele amusante reisverslagen, we volgen jullie allemaal op de voet. Nog heel veel plezier bij de Aussies. We zijn nu al de dagen aan het aftellen voor je terugkomt. Smokkel aub een paar zebravinken voor me mee. Als ze het te koud krijgen in ons koude kikkerlandje, duw ik ze gewoon even in de magnetron. Heb ik met de vorige ook gedaan. :-)

Gelukkig zit ik net in bad, want ik begin spontaan te kwijlen van de mooie foto's/omgeving daar. In 't echt moet het dan helemaal overweldigend mooi zijn. Je moet straks toch een heel goed excuus hebben om weer in het vliegtuig te stappen naar Nederland.
Over de temperatuur valt op dit moment ook niet te klagen. Zeker 38 graden! (in bad)
Geniet ervan want de weken gaan snel, maar missen doen we jullie wel.

Wij (Angel, Nuel, Nerena, mister X, Marcel en ik) zijn net terug van een weekje relaxvakantie in Tenerife.
Als goed is komen jullie over 5 daagjes al weer terug. Toch lang hoor, voor mijn gevoel, dat jullie weg zijn.
Nog veel plezier en ook nog wat relaxen de komende dagen. Hier verwachten ze een witte pasen( sneeuw). Dus .....
