Sydney -> Melbourne -> Twelve Apostles

Hello to you all!
Here we are again! Unfortunately we had to leave Sydney, but we were headed for Melbourne. We took an inland road and as soon as we turned away from the city we saw that there were a lot of dead Kangaroos along the way. It’s amazing how easily you get used to that. Seeing the first dead Kangaroo, you go like “Oh my god, poor little thing!!!” but after seeing about 20 run over Kangaroos, you start saying things like “and another flat skippy”… Unfortunately we did not see any alive ones…
Before going to Melbourne, we made a stop at Philip Island. Philip Island is famous for its penguin parade. At sunset the penguins will get out of the ocean and will go back to there small little holes across the beach. We arrived quite early on Philip Island and just at that moment the finals of the Grand Prix of Motorracing started. We wanted to have a look, but unfortunately everything was enclosed with big fences, so no strolling around on the parking where all the great motors were parked, no feeling of the atmosphere… just looking through a fence.. which was not that much fun… So on we went, to the koala reservation and I keep saying this, but these little furry animals are CUTE like hell! I cannot get enough of them. In the visitor center they told us that the penguins would be expected to get to shore around 8.30 and we had to be there an hour before. And then, it was only waiting and waiting and waiting… And then… what was that? Did I see a little black and white penguin rolling on the beach? YEAH, I did! How cute!!! Soon more followed and more and more. It’s terrific to see them waggle across the beach back to their holes. After about watching half an hour, we decided to head back, but when we walked back we could see them go into their holes, gathering around, the babies screaming for their mothers and all very close, this was really GREAT (too bad you weren’t allowed to take any pictures). After a lot of “ooohhh” and “aaaah”… and “look how cute they are” we finally started our drive further up to Melbourne, were we arrived at midnight… yawn… very long, but nice day!
The next day when we started our sight seeing of Melbourne, it was quite obvious that this city was a lot more relaxed than Sydney. Everything seems to go on a different pace and also the people seem more friendly and more relaxed. We decided to take the tram into the city and from there on we walked a lot all throughout the city, along the Yarra river and back into the city center again. We really enjoyed walking through Melbourne. It’s relaxed, it has everything of a BIG city, but also a lot of parks, nice bars, good restaurants and again, everywhere beautiful birds. (I cannot get used to the fact that there are parrots everywhere!). After a long and tiring day in Melbourne, we had another great trip ahead: The Great Ocean Road. This is the coastal route in the South and this one ends with the world famous Twelve Apostles. The route was GREAT and we finally get to see some koalas and kangaroos “in the wild”. Unfortunately the day started with a lot of clouds, but by the end of the day, the sun began to shine again and we could really enjoy the Twelve Apostles where we watched the sunset, which gave the whole thing a really fairy tail like atmosphere! A terrific end of the day!
We are definitely enjoying every minute!

P.S. What the hell is going on with the flies over here??? They are really aiming for ears, eyes and nose?!?!?!? Oh and eh… I’m becoming a big fan of the Australian wines… you can really taste the different fruits they’re using!
Gwenda: Het lijkt alsof we in jullie fotoboek zijn gestapt, alles wat we doen en zien, daar zien we in gedachten jullie foto’s bij en we begrijpen helemaal dat jullie zeiden: Het is een fantastisch land! Dat is helemaal waar!
Trudy: Ik ben naar de toren geweest in Melbourne waar je het over had, maar aangezien ik nogal hoogtevrees heb, ben ik niet in die glazen kubus gestapt die UIT het gebouw schuift. Je zit op de 88e verdieping en dan op een glazen plaat staan die buiten het gebouw komt… niks voor mij… aaahhhh… maar toch bedankt voor de tip, want het uitzicht was GEWELDIG! Daar hoef ik niet persé voor in een glazen kubus te zitten ;-)
Alexandra: Spring in het vliegtuig en kom deze kant op!
Patrice: Yep, ZEKER de moeite waard, neem er lekker de tijd voor, dat is de beste tip die we kunnen geven!
John: Haw de tent rech, iech kom neet mie terok!
Germaine: Geef mam maar een flinke "koala-knuffel" namens ons!
Natascha: Jaaaa... geweldig!!! Wat doe jij? Ga je later dit jaar ook nog???

Geniet maar samen lekker van de Australische wijn, but don't drink to much. "Daan zette ze uuch dalik vas"!! Mooie foto's trouwens! Lydia, het is wel een stuk rustiger op de afdeling nu je weg bent, dus je moet wel terug komen voor weer wat leven in de tent te brengen. Grz. Richard -

Hello darlings, zo wordt je daar toch aangesproken toch? hebben jullie al kangeroe-steak gegeten, ik weet het, beetje zielig maar superheerlijk en inderdaad die wijnen hmmmm. Volgens mij hebbben jullie nog een weekje, geniet met volle teugen. Ik heb besloten om terug te gaan naar Maleisie maar ga zeker weten nog een keer down under
